You Know the B1. Now Meet the Profoto B2. And the Rest of the Family.

You know the B1 – the off-camera flash that has been called “game changer” more times than we can count. Today, we present the next step in that evolution. Meet the new Profoto Off-Camera Flash system and the new Profoto B2.

The new Profoto Off-Camera Flash system is designed for fast and easy on-location photography. Everything included in the system is small and lightweight. Everything is easy to use.

The most attention-grabbing item in the system is probably the new Profoto B2. The Profoto B2 is a lighter, more portable counterpart to the B1. The Profoto B2 consists of a battery pack and a head. The battery pack can be put on the shoulder or hip, while the head is small and light enough to be mounted onto a monopod or a bracket on the camera. This will allow the photographer to stay moving. If that is not necessary, both the pack and head can be put on a stand and the Profoto B2 can be wirelessly controlled from the camera. This makes the Profoto B2 the world’s first off-camera flash that can be used both on and off-camera.

The Profoto B1 Location Kit. An Off-camera Flash Kit for On-Location Photography.

Today, we are happy to introduce the very first B1 kit. The kit is called Profoto B1 Location Kit. As the name suggests, it is designed to make the highly portable B1 even easier to bring to an on-location shoot.

The most attention-grabbing features of the Profoto B1 have always been the B1’s TTL metering and its cordless operation. Both of these features convey the same message: the B1 is not a studio flash. It is an off-camera flash designed for on-location photography. The TTL function shines the brightest in challenging lighting conditions. Its cordless operation unleashes your creativity and makes it want to run free in the wild!

The new Profoto B1 Location Kit was designed with this in mind. The kit contains the following:

  • 2 x B1 Off-camera Flashes
The B1 makes great light easy. With TTL you set the light in a flash. With battery power and without cords, you can take it with you wherever you go and put it wherever you want. Add to that the power, speed and light shaping possibilities that Profoto lights are known for.
  • 2 x Li-Ion Batteries
This powerful and exchangeable battery will provide 220-50.000 flashes in a single charge depending on your flash output.
  • 1 x Fast Charger 4.5A
The Fast Charger will fully recharge the Li-Ion Battery in only one hour. Plus it is safe and very easy to use.
  • 1 x Car Charger 1.8A
Plugs into a standard car cigarette connector and recharges the Li-Ion Battery in two hours.
  • 1 x BackPack M
A tailor-made backpack with comfortable carrying straps, adjustable compartments and side pockets for carrying stands (not included).

The B1 Location Kit is the latest addition to our growing and evolving off-camera flash concept. In November 2013, the B1 and its many accessories were launched. In April 2014, the first firmware upgrade was released, enabling TTL metering with the Canon EOS-1D X.

As you all know, we are now working on the firmware upgrade that will enable high-speed sync (HSS). We are also busy developing the new Air Remote TTL-N that will enable TTL metering with Nikon cameras. New Light Shaping Tools, optimized for off-camera flashes, are also on their way.

Shape Sunlight or Bounce Flash Light with our New Collapsible Reflectors

We do not need tell you why collapsible reflectors are great. Every photographer knows that (affordable, lightweight, easy to use, etc.). But what you most probably did not know is that we just released a bunch of them.

So, what make ours stand out from the crowd of collapsible reflectors? Well, here are a couple of features that we think make our Collapsible Reflectors special:

First of all, the sturdy yet collapsible squircle-shaped metal frame is equipped with two ergonomically shaped handles. This makes the reflectors much easier to fold and hold in various positions. Also, the Collapsible Reflectors have a squircle shape that is quite unique.

Secondly, we put a lot of effort into making sure our Collapsible Reflectors are as tough and reliable as possible. They are designed with high-quality fabrics and the frame itself is far tougher and durable than your average reflector.

Last but not least, Profoto’s Collapsible Reflectors are available in no less than ten different versions. Four types of two-sided reflectors are available: Silver/White, Sunsilver/White, Gold/White & Matte Black/White. There is also a translucent screen available to be used as a diffuser. Each of these is available in two sizes: Medium (80 cm /32’’) and Large (120 cm /47”).

Below you fill find a complete list of all the Collapsible Reflectors that are available as of today. For more information, please go to the dedicated page at our website.

You will also find a couple of behind-the-scenes images below, showing Portuguese fashion photographer Frederico Martins in action with the new Collapsible Reflectors. Tomorrow, we will publish the full story from Frederico’s shoot. Stay tuned!

Profoto Blog MK III 2

Notice anything different? Yup, our blog has finally had a facelift. Hope you like it.

But there is more than meets the eye. For instance, the categories and tags have been cleaned out. It should now be a lot easier to browse posts from a certain point of interest, such as “portrait photography” or “Pro-B3″. Also, the authors page has been updated, and the admittedly annoying “read more” button that insisted on showing up even if there was not anything more to read has been removed. Now, if there is a “read more” button, there is more to read…

We also have two new monthly article series. One is called Behind the Scenes at Profoto. This series will feature interviews with the Profoto staff. So, if you ever wondered who we are or what the thinking was behind the design of this or that piece of equipment, stay tuned. The first piece will be published tomorrow.

The other series is called The Light Shaper and follows Profoto’s in-house photographer and light shaping evangelist Andrea Belluso in his daily work. The first piece will be published within a week or two.

Light Shaping Tool of the Month and Ian Ruhter’s Silver & Light will, of course, continue as usual.

Last but not least, if you have any thoughts on the new layout or on how is can be improved, please leave a comment or drop us a line. We are still tweaking it a bit, so any feedback will be much appreciated.
