This photo has been terribly retouched … gaussian blur to the max – yuk!"

It looks more like the lightroom "Clarity" bar on it's softest setting. Other than that great tutorial. Keep it up!

Matt, I also have to agree with Justin. There are "good" and "bad" concepts of a proper retouch that the commercial world of photography agree to. One is retaining good skin texture and not erasing it. You do Profoto a disservice by defending the image. Profoto is supposed to be the cream of the crop in quality products (and I use them almost exclusively) and any of their marketing images should reflect this level of quality.

On another note, it is great to see profoto posting these free intro "webinars".
I would love to see some advanced level photo technique lessons too.

I have to agree to Justin. No, retouching it is not subjective. There is GOOD RETOUCH and BAD RETOUCH. Blurring the skin is NOT retouching. There are some compromises you can make when working for a client BUT if the client ask you to totally destroy your career, your talent and expertise or simply do something that is BAD FOR THEM AND FOR YOU, it is YOUR responsibility to educate the client, your OBLIGATION as a professional to, politely tell the client when something they are asking you to do could go against their interests and yours. Bastardize your profession doesn't seems to be a smart move. AND it is definitely not a good thing when you as a professional have worked, burnt your eyes and developed your technique to perfection, not to mention how bad it is for the rest of the industry that somebody call RETOUCH to just do... crap.
