What is Profoto Continuous Lights? It is a new range of continuous light sources, designed specifically to work with Profoto’s wide assortment of Light Shaping Tools. The core of the range comprises ProDaylight (HMI) and ProTungsten. These units are powerful enough to be used for both video and still photography.
Why light shaping for video?
Modern DSLR cameras can be used to shoot high-resolution videos as well as still photographs. Since more and more photographers are required to do both, it is a natural step for us to introduce our concept of light shaping into the world of video.

Are all Profoto Light Shaping Tools compatible with Profoto Continuous lights?

Heads and Ballasts
ProDaylight Heads
ProDaylight heads provide a bright, daylight colour temperature light, which is ideal for most photo and video shoots. The lights are dimmable and compatible with Profoto’s Air Remote control. Available in 200W, 400W and 800W versions. Requires ballast.
ProDaylight Ballasts
ProBallast 200/400 and ProBallast 800 are electronic, flicker-free ballasts that power the ProDaylight heads. They are robust, easy to use and completely silent.
ProTungsten
ProTungsten provides a warm-white light (3200K) that gets even warmer when the light is dimmed. This makes ProTungsten ideal as character light. The lamp is dimmable and compatible with Profoto’s Air Remote control. Does not require ballast.
