It’s not so much about the light,” says Roméo. “I have the experience and the equipment to create the light I want, anywhere I want it. But of course, sometimes I want a nice background. In these cases, the D1 is perfect. It’s compact and lightweight, and I can easily pack it in a bag and bring it with me.

In this shoot, Roméo used four D1 units with different Light Shaping Tools. The key light is a D1, mounted on a boom. Since he was outdoors and needed a strong key light, Roméo choose the Softlight Reflector Silver with a grid. For fill light, he used a single D1 with an umbrella. Finally, there are two D1 units equipped with Softbox StripLights and grids behind the actress, as rim light. This outlined her silhouette nicely and gave a little detail to her hair and shoulders.

To power the lights, Roméo used Profoto’s portable power source the BatPac.
It’s amazing to have all the energy you need outdoors, to be able to control the light with the same power and precision as indoors. The BatPac was a really good idea from Profoto! It has made me a lot more flexible in my work.
